School to Career

Bridge

ABC estimates that 250,000 construction workers per year for the next ten years will be needed to replace retiring baby boomers. The West Tennessee Chapter has developed a comprehensive school-to-career plan to educate students about the benefits and opportunity that exist in a construction career.

How is ABC's West Tennessee Chapter involved?

The West Tennessee Chapter regulary seeks opportunities for involvement with area schools. We have provided information to Shelby County Schools' teachers and students about TryTools.org, a web site designed to educate people about construction careers. We have encouraged reading by donating books to elementary school libraries.

At the high school level, chapter staff and members participate in career days and serve in an advisory capacity on vocational education committees for Shelby County and Memphis City Schools.

How can you get involved?

To learn more about how you or your company can become involved in school-to-career opportunities, e-mail us at brenda@wtcabc.org. To learn more about careers in construction, visit TryTools.org.
